Varithena® (or microfoam treatment) is a special FDA approved medication for a minimally invasive treatment of varicose veins. This treatment involves injecting the foam medication into the diseased vein while using ultrasound to visualize the vein. The medication causes the vein to collapse and close. Once the vein closes, the blood will be rerouted through the healthy veins. The procedure is performed in the clinic setting and you can return to your normal activities the same day.
Treatment with Varithena has a high success rate, is typically less painful than traditional surgical treatments for varicose veins, and takes less time than laser or radiofrequency treatments of the veins.
