Ultrasound

While an ultrasound exam is not actually a treatment, we wanted to make sure you knew what to expect if your provider orders one.

Here’s what you can expect: You will be asked to put on some of our disposable shorts so that we can examine your leg with ultrasound. The sonographer (the person performing the ultrasound will introduce themselves and briefly explain the procedure). You will sit or lie on an exam bed for a portion of the exam and will need to stand, if you are able, for part of it. The ultrasound machine has a probe (a wand type instrument) that will be used on your legs. Before touching your leg with the probe, the sonographer will put some gel on it or on your leg; WARNING: it can feel a little cold!  The sonographer will move the probe up and down your leg, examining the vessels, sometimes pushing in bit, sometimes squeezing the leg a little. The exam is not considered painful. It usually takes 45-60 minutes to complete.

If your provider is not available to discuss the results and plan with you at that time, you are free to go.  We will set up a time for you to come in or have a telemedicine visit with them.
