SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH MY LEGS!
When there’s something going on with your legs, you can come see us. We will begin looking for the root cause of the problem during your first consultation.
During your consultation you can expect to have a through history taken (lots of questions and forms! Sorry- its important!). We will ask more questions about your symptoms and what it’s like to live with these every day. We may ask for lab or test results done at other facilities (don’t worry, we can request them directly from the other facility after you have signed a form giving us permission). We will do a thorough exam of your legs and will do a brief check of other body systems at the same time. We may order additional testing (usually ultrasound) and/or lab work if it is indicated.
There are also a few things we WILL NOT do during this consultation: We will NOT tell you that your symptoms are all in your head. We will NOT tell you that your only problem is that you need to lose weight. It’s also possible we won’t be able to give you a diagnosis during this first visit. We want to have all the information available to us to make a solid diagnosis and sometimes it takes a while to receive all the information we need to do that. Once we have a chance to review any studies or labs we ordered during the initial consultation, we will have an in-person or telemedicine visit to discuss the results, diagnosis, and the plan.
If your initial History and Physical exam and test results indicate that you have Vein disease, Lipedema, mild peripheral arterial disease, or Lymphedema we will gladly and promptly treat you at our clinic.
When there is a joint or bone problem, problem with the feet, autoimmune disease, heart or kidney issue, or other diagnosis that is causing symptoms in the legs we will happily refer you to the best specialists in the region. We will continue to see you and treat you for the swelling, but we want to make sure you have the best specialist treating the root cause of your symptoms. In addition, there are occasions when even the diseases we treat routinely require some specialized surgical intervention – if this happens, we will refer you to the right provider for the job.
